Les infections virales ne connaissent pas de frontières. Alors que l’épidémie de VIH reste très active et que l’hépatite C fait des ravages en Europe, il revient à l’Union Européenne d’impulser une riposte coordonnée et efficace sur toute la région, en impliquant les personnes concernées, la société civile, les soignants-es et les décideurs-es politiques
La Plateforme Europe de Coalition PLUS et ses partenaires appellent les futurs parlementaires européens à se mobiliser pour construire une Europe de la Santé, sans sida ni hépatites d’ici à 2030 [1].
La situation européenne face aux grandes épidémies reste très préoccupante [2] : 160 000 personnes ont découvert leur séropositivité au VIH en 2017, dont 53% étaient à un stade avancée de l’infection. C’est en Europe centrale et orientale que la pandémie est la plus active et concentre à elle seule 80% des nouvelles infections.
Plus ignorée encore, l’hépatite C, dont le virus attaque les cellules du foie, tue chaque année 112 500 personnes dans la région [3].Pourtant, des médicaments efficaces pour en guérir existent.
Dans l’appel à l’action pour une Europe de la Santé [#EUR4health], publiée aujourd’hui dans 4 langues (français, anglais, roumain et portugais) et signée par 47 ONG et acteurs de la société civile, nous appelons les futurs parlementaires européens et l’ensemble des institutions de l’Union européenne à :
- Augmenter l’aide européenne au développement à travers une contribution renforcée au Fonds mondial de lutte contre le VIH, la tuberculose et le paludisme et à travers la mise en place et l’affectation à la santé d’une taxe sur les transactions financières ;
- Mettre en place une politique migratoire respectueuse des personnes, assortie des prises en charge adaptées, notamment des problématiques sanitaires ;
- Appliquer une politique des drogues respectueuse de la santé et des droits des personnes consommatrices ;
- Etablir une fixation transparente et juste des prix des médicaments pour que tout-e citoyen-ne de l’Europe puisse y avoir accès sans discrimination liée à ses moyens financiers.

Europe for Health : 47 organisations call upon the future Members of the European Parliament #EUR4health
Viral infections know no borders. Because the HIV epidemic is still highly active and the hepatitis C virus is wreaking havoc in Europe, it is time for the European Union to assume a leading role with member states and neighbouring countries in organizing a coordinated and effective response across the region, involving stakeholders, civil society, health care providers and policy makers.
Coalition PLUS’ European Platform and the signatory organisations call upon the future Members of the European Parliament to build a Europe for health without AIDS nor hepatitis by 2030[1].
The European situation in regard to major epidemics remains very worrying[2]: 160,000 people were diagnosed with HIV in 2017, of these 53% were in advanced stages of infection. The pandemic is the most active in Central and Eastern Europe. This part of Europe accounts for 80% of new HIV infections.
More ignored still, hepatitis C which attacks the liver kills 112,500 people[3] every year in the region. However, effective treatment exists that can cure it.
In a call to action for a Europe for Heath [#EUR4health], released today in 4 languages (English, French, Portugese and Romanian) and signed by 47 NGOs and CSOs, we ask the future Members of the European Parliament and the all the institutions of the European Union :
- To increase its development aid through an increased contribution to the Global Fund to fight HIV, tuberculosis and malaria and through the establishment and allocation to health of the Financial Transaction Tax,
- To implement a migration policy respectful of people, including appropriate health care issues,
- To make its drug policy respectful of the health and rights of consumers,
- To ensure the transparent and fair pricing of medicines so that all citizens of Europe can access medicines without discrimination due to their financial means or those of their national health system.
